Zoo time

This morning we went to the Columbus Zoo.  It was a great morning to be out and about.   The weather was warm but not too hot and it was a little cloudy.  R wanted to take K to the dinosaur boat ride, so we headed there first thing.  He thought it was awesome and even wore his dino shirt.  K also had a first carousel ride.  He was impatient for the ride to start but once it did, he couldn't get enough and cried when we left.  Good morning for animals and dinosaurs.

elmo!!

R went to her first "stage" show.  Sesame Street Live.  She loved the singing and dancing and seeing her favorite characters.  K stayed with Grandma and Pop Pop.  After the show we celebrated Pop Pop's birthday and father's day.

family fun day 2013

OCCH family fun day 2013!!  this year daddy came with me and R.  We went to the zoo for a morning of stingrays, dinosaurs and rides.  R didn't even know these additional parts of the zoo existed until today.  (I'm sure this will bode well for future visits).  It was a great morning to see the animals and explore the zoo.  The new dino exhibit just opened a couple weeks ago.  thanks to mommy's work, we had a ride bracelet, so unlimited rides for the whole day.  R took advantage of this by riding the teacups, the elephants, the frogger, the train, the scrambler.  Daddy rode the roller coaster.  R couldn't get enough of the rides.  After lunch and lots of rides, we went to the waterpark section of the zoo.  first time for all of us - it was fun to cruise through the lazy river and play in the kids area.  Overall great day exploring.

Get Lucky

DAY ONE:  Saturday morning we piled in the car for an early 6am start with hopes of making it to our destination by 6pm.  Armed with a bag full of tricks and many videos, we headed south.....we had a beautiful day for travel and made only two stops on our drive. Once we got to Charleston - we unpacked and relaxed.

DAY TWO:  Sunday morning we headed directly to the pool.  After a wonderful dip, we took a good nap and headed out for some bbq and a few errands to pick up some odds and ends that we forgot at home.  Then, to work off some dinner, we went to the playground.  Sunday's weather was great.

DAY THREE:  In the morning we did something a little different - spent some time at the USS Yorktown.  It was a huge boat with lots of cool planes and jets on board.  It was cool to climb around inside the boat, although it was hot and cramped - can't imagine living on the sea in this thing.  R and K got to test drive a real jet and dance on a huge stage in front a huge american flag.  For dinner we had some delicious pizza and pasta at Vespas.

DAY FOUR:  More pool time!!  K had a rough day with a fever, so we laid low.  For dinner we went to an awesome place for beer and burgers (for grown ups only).  We made a quick stop at the playground on the way home where R showed the boys how to do the zip line.

DAY FIVE:  Wednesday we went to the Children's Museum.   R asked every day about the play place  where they have dress up clothes.  R was excited to show K around the play area and there was a lot to do.  The pirate ship is also a big hit in the museum.  After the museum we had lunch at an awesome local place then made a quick stop at the park.  After naps we vegged out with Finding Nemo and some food on the grill.  R insisted that we ate outside as much as possible (which makes daddy so happy-- ha ha).

DAY SIX:  We wanted to squeeze in one more trip to the pool....we made it about 45 minutes before the rain drops started to drop.  good thing we were already wet.  The pool was so fun and not very busy because the local schools were not out yet.  In the afternoon we went to the Fire Museum.  It gave the history of the fire truck and had some super cool vehicles.  Too bad for K that we couldn't climb on everything.  But, there was a super cool truck simulator.  Lots of buttons to push and flashing lights.  At the end, we went home with cool red hats.

DAY SEVEN:  A loooong drive back to OH, with so much rain at the onset.  Dad did a great job getting us home and the kids did a great job as patient passengers.  We were all so happy to see our house.

Overall, it was a great vacation.  The kids are so much fun and K is starting to talk so much.  His favorite phrases were "where daddy go?"  and "cucos!" (color) and "wa-wer" (water).  R is such a great big sister.  The theme song of the trip (because we heard it a lot) was Get Lucky by Daft Punk.....yes, Daft Punk - we are lucky.  Thanks for making a cool song to remind us.
