Apple Picking 2012
It is apple picking time! It was a beautiful October saturday and we took advantage by picking apples with our friends. It was chilly but very sunny. R ate an apple straight from the tree. K was intrigued by the leaves and low hanging fruit. It was fun to walk through the orchard and select the very best apples. I guess we need to look up some apple recipes. In the evening, we went to the annual neighborhood chili tasting party. It was very fun - 10 chili entries and lots of good side dishes. Overall, it was a wonderful Saturday!

COSI fun
K went to an infant workshop at COSI with his friend, Isla, over the weekend. They played with boxes and colorful scarves. They also had fun with blocks and noise makers. While we were learning, daddy and daughter were hanging out in the kids play area. We found them in the water station after our workshop. It was a very good afternoon!

1st dentist visit
R had her first trip to the dentist. She was soooo excited. She has been bugging me for weeks about making her a dentist appointment and I'm not really sure where she got the idea. Well, today was the day. She was such a big girl - sat in the chair and let the dentist clean her teeth with a penguin shaped toothbrush. The doctor counted her teeth - 20, the perfect amount. Now she has to wait another 6 months to go again. If only we were all that happy to go to the dentist.

Pumpkin Patch
The fall festivities are under way. Today was a beautiful fall day and we took advantage of it by going to Pigeon Foot Farm in Hebron. It was really cool. They had so much to do, I think the kids were actually a little overwhelmed. We did measure the kids to see how many pumpkins tall each was. We did a few slides and played in a covered wagon of corn. We did a duck race with water pumps and ducks that were Halloween themed. We took a hay ride to see the whole farm. K liked to watch the wheels. Most importantly, we got our pumpkins. Next we need to find a weekend to pick apples! Fall is fun.

Birthday celebration!
We celebrated a first birthday today with lots of family. K was most excited about his birthday balloons. He likes to try to grab them. At lunch time everyone came down to greet K when he woke up from his nap. R wore her best party skirt. The person that K wanted most was Grandpa Howie - he is partial to men, even over his own mother! No worries though, I still have my little shadow to fill my arms. We had some lunch and then opened presents. K was less than impressed with the gift opening and cared more about the boxes and paper. He did, however, promptly climb into the speedway toy that we got for him - not exactly how that was supposed to work. After R opened all of K's presents, we set up the cake and ice cream. K did not smash the cake as much as I thought he might - but R wanted to get into the action. She smooched her hand into the smash cake. After K was done, Grandma Farm helped herself to the smash cake remnants and actually preferred the little smash cake to the birthday cake. During K's afternoon nap, some people watched football and some went outside to trim some bushes. Even on a party day, work needed to be accomplished! Attendees -- G and G Wolff, G and G Malone, Grandma Farm, B & Wendy, Jordan & Mike. Gifts -- motor speedway, clothes, vtech helicopter and book, toolbox, big legos, dino popper. The weather was a little rainy in the morning and cool but it cleared off and was a beautiful day.

monkey business
We started thinking about what the kids could be for Halloween this year. It prompted us to pull out the monkey costume that R wore a couple of years ago. Fortunately it will work for K this year, but of course Ms. R had to try on the costume for old times sake.
